Colt Coral
Cladiella sp.
Animalia›Cnidaria›Anthozoa›Alcyoniidae
📍 Indo-Pacific reefs
Fast-growing soft coral with branching, finger-like lobes covered in feathery polyps. Sways gracefully in the current and grows rapidly — ideal for new reef tanks needing quick visual impact. Releases chemicals that may irritate nearby corals.
Tank Mates
Hardy reef fish that coexist peacefully; avoid placing near coral if clownfish are aggressive toward it
Beneficial reef inhabitants that help maintain coral health without damaging polyps
Peaceful burrowers that don't disturb corals; provide structural complexity to the reef
Small, reef-safe fish that feed on parasites and algae without harming corals
Excellent algae grazers that maintain tank cleanliness without bothering soft corals
Common Diseases
Coral Bleaching
Loss of color, polyps fail to extend, tissue appears pale or white
Reduce light intensity, check water parameters (temperature, salinity, nutrients), improve water flow, and ensure stable conditions
Bacterial Infection
Tissue recession, visible lesions, mucus coating, polyp retraction
Increase water flow and oxygenation, perform partial water changes, consider antibacterial dips, and maintain pristine water quality
Polyp Necrosis
Polyps fail to extend, tissue death progressing from base upward, foul odor
Improve water circulation, check for allelopathic competition from nearby corals, remove affected tissue if localized, and maintain stable parameters
Pest Infestation (Nudibranchs/Flatworms)
Visible small organisms on coral, rapid tissue damage, polyp damage
Manual removal of pests, dip coral in freshwater or specialized solutions, quarantine affected coral, and monitor tank for reinfestation
