Care Guide

Diet

Festivums are omnivorous and should be fed a varied diet including high-quality cichlid pellets, frozen bloodworms, brine shrimp, and small live foods. Feed once or twice daily in amounts they can consume within 2-3 minutes. Supplement with vegetable matter such as blanched spinach occasionally.

Behavior

Festivums are peaceful, schooling cichlids that prefer to be kept in small groups or pairs. They are active swimmers that spend most of their time in the middle water column, displaying their characteristic vertical stripe patterns. They exhibit interesting social hierarchies and may show territorial behavior during breeding, but generally remain non-aggressive toward other peaceful species.

Breeding

Festivums are substrate spawners that form monogamous pairs during breeding season. They require slightly acidic water (pH 6.0-6.5), warm temperatures (26-28°C), and plenty of flat surfaces or caves for egg-laying. Breeding difficulty is moderate; parents typically guard eggs and fry, though removing them to a separate breeding tank increases success rates.
