Lilaeopsis New Zealand
Lilaeopsis novae-zelandiae
Plantae›Tracheophyta›Magnoliopsida›Apiales›Apiaceae
📍 New Zealand
Fine-leaved grass-like plant that forms low carpets. One of the easier carpet plants — tolerates lower light than most. From New Zealand.
Tank Mates
Peaceful algae grazers that won't uproot or damage delicate plant leaves
Excellent algae control without harming plants; gentle foragers
Small, non-destructive shrimp that graze algae and won't disturb carpet plants
Complementary foreground plant with similar low-light tolerance and carpet-forming growth
Small, peaceful fish that won't uproot plants or cause significant disturbance
Tiny, gentle fish ideal for planted tanks with minimal impact on substrate plants
Common Diseases
Nutrient Deficiency
Yellowing leaves, stunted growth, pale coloration, leaf holes or transparent patches
Increase fertilizer dosing; ensure macronutrients (nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium) and micronutrients (iron, boron, manganese) are adequate. Consider adding CO2 if not already present
Algae Overgrowth
Green or brown algae coating plant leaves, reduced light penetration, plant growth slowing
Reduce lighting duration to 8-10 hours daily; increase water changes; add algae-eating fish or shrimp; improve water circulation
Root Rot
Blackened or mushy roots, plant detachment from substrate, overall plant decline despite good conditions
Improve substrate drainage and water circulation; reduce organic waste buildup; perform partial water changes; consider replanting in fresh substrate if severely affected
Melting
Rapid leaf deterioration, transparent or dissolving leaves, plant collapse within days to weeks
Gradually acclimate plant to new tank conditions over 2-3 weeks; maintain stable water parameters; ensure adequate lighting and nutrients; trim affected portions and allow recovery
