Limnophila Sessiliflora
Limnophila sessiliflora
Plantae›Tracheophyta›Magnoliopsida›Plantaginaceae
📍 Asia
Sometimes called Ambulia, this fast-growing stem plant produces dense whorls of fine, feathery leaves that resemble a soft green bottle brush. One of the most forgiving stem plants — it grows without CO2 injection and tolerates a wide pH range, making it ideal for beginner planted tanks.
Tank Mates
Peaceful algae grazers that won't damage plant leaves and help maintain tank cleanliness
Small, peaceful schooling fish that thrive in planted tanks and provide visual contrast
Beneficial invertebrates that graze algae and won't uproot or damage stem plants
Peaceful mid-water dweller that appreciates dense plant cover for security
Gentle bottom-dweller that aerates substrate without disturbing rooted plants
Excellent companion plant that creates layered aquascaping and provides additional cover
Common Diseases
Nutrient Deficiency
Yellowing leaves, stunted growth, pale coloration, particularly in older leaves
Increase fertilizer dosing (macronutrients and micronutrients), ensure adequate lighting, and consider adding root tabs if substrate is inert
Algae Overgrowth on Leaves
Green or brown algae coating plant surfaces, reduced photosynthesis, leaf deterioration
Reduce light duration to 8-10 hours daily, increase water changes, add algae-eating fish or shrimp, and manually remove affected leaves
Stem Rot
Blackening or softening of stem tissue, leaf loss, mushy appearance at base
Improve water circulation, reduce organic waste buildup, trim affected stems immediately, and ensure adequate lighting to promote plant health
Melting
Rapid leaf dissolution and transparency, plant appears to dissolve over days
Gradually acclimate plant to new tank conditions over 2-3 weeks, maintain stable water parameters, and ensure adequate CO2 and nutrients
