Murdannia Keisak
Murdannia keisak
Plantae›Tracheophyta›Magnoliopsida›Commelinales›Commelinaceae
📍 East Asia (China, Japan, Korea)
Pink-stemmed plant with narrow leaves. Develops beautiful pink-red colouration even under moderate light. Very easy red/pink stem plant.
Tank Mates
Peaceful algae grazers that won't damage plant stems or leaves
Gentle invertebrates that clean algae without harming plants and thrive in the same conditions
Small, peaceful fish that appreciate plant cover and won't uproot or consume the plant
Excellent companion plant with similar care requirements and complementary growth patterns
Low-maintenance companion plant that pairs well in planted layouts without competing for nutrients
Larger shrimp that won't damage stems but may occasionally nibble tender new growth
Common Diseases
Nutrient Deficiency
Pale or yellowing leaves, stunted growth, loss of pink coloration, thin weak stems
Increase fertilizer dosing with all-in-one liquid fertilizer or add macronutrients (NPK); ensure adequate lighting and consider adding CO2
Algae Overgrowth on Leaves
Green or brown algae coating leaf surfaces, reduced photosynthesis, plant appears dull
Increase water changes, reduce lighting duration to 8-10 hours daily, add algae-eating fish or shrimp, manually remove affected leaves
Stem Rot
Mushy or blackened stems, foul odor, leaves detaching easily, decay spreading upward
Remove affected stems immediately, improve water circulation with aeration, reduce organic waste through water changes, ensure substrate isn't compacted
Slow Growth or Melting
Leaves becoming translucent and dissolving, minimal new growth, plant appears stressed
Check water parameters (pH 6.0-7.5, GH 4-8), increase fertilizer and CO2 if available, ensure temperature is 23-28°C, improve lighting intensity
