Rotala Nanjenshan
Rotala nanjenshan
Plantae›Tracheophyta›Magnoliopsida›Lythraceae
📍 Taiwan
A delicate stem plant with small, narrow leaves that form feathery, bright green whorls. Under high light and CO2 it develops a slight pinkish tint at the growing tips. It grows vigorously and is a great mid-to-background filler, tolerating a wide range of conditions better than most Rotala species.
Tank Mates
Peaceful algae grazers that won't damage plant leaves and help maintain tank cleanliness
Small, non-destructive shrimp that thrive in planted tanks and add visual interest
Peaceful schooling fish that appreciate plant cover and won't uproot or consume the plant
Gentle algae eaters that benefit from plant-rich environments without damaging stem plants
Complementary foreground plant that pairs well with Rotala Nanjenshan's mid-background placement
Low-light companion plant with contrasting leaf shape and growth rate
Common Diseases
Nutrient Deficiency
Yellowing or pale new growth, stunted development, loss of color intensity
Increase fertilizer dosing with all-in-one liquid fertilizers or add root tabs; ensure adequate lighting and CO2 for nutrient uptake
Algae Overgrowth on Leaves
Green or brown algae coating leaf surfaces, reduced photosynthesis, plant vigor decline
Increase water changes, reduce light duration to 8-10 hours daily, introduce algae-eating shrimp or fish, and manually remove affected leaves
Melting (Decay)
Leaves becoming translucent, mushy stems, rapid tissue breakdown after planting
Trim affected portions, improve water quality with frequent changes, ensure adequate light and circulation, and avoid burying stems too deeply
Slow Growth or Stagnation
Minimal new leaf development, pale coloration, plant appearing dormant
Increase light intensity (moderate to high), add CO2 supplementation, boost fertilizer dosing, and verify water parameters are within optimal range
