Common Diseases

Nutrient Deficiency (Iron/Micronutrients)

Symptoms

Yellowing or pale leaves, stunted growth, loss of orange coloration, interveinal chlorosis

Treatment

Increase liquid fertilizer dosing, particularly iron supplements; ensure CO2 and lighting are adequate to allow nutrient uptake

Algae Overgrowth

Symptoms

Green or brown algae coating stems and leaves, reduced light penetration, plant decline

Treatment

Reduce photoperiod to 8-10 hours daily, increase water changes, add algae-eating fauna (Amano shrimp, Otocinclus), ensure CO2 and nutrients are balanced

Melting/Tissue Decay

Symptoms

Leaves become translucent, stems soften and disintegrate, rapid plant deterioration

Treatment

Improve water quality with frequent partial changes, increase CO2 injection, ensure adequate lighting and fertilization; remove severely affected portions

Poor Growth/Stunting

Symptoms

Slow growth rate, small leaves, pale coloration, plant fails to thrive despite apparent good conditions

Treatment

Verify CO2 levels (30-40ppm optimal), increase lighting intensity to 60+ PAR, boost macro and micronutrient dosing, check water parameters for imbalances
