Compatible Livestock
Shrimp will not damage delicate foliage and help control algae; they thrive in the same high-light, nutrient-rich environment
Excellent algae control without harming plants; compatible with high-tech planted tank setups
Small, peaceful fish that won't uproot or damage stems; adds visual contrast with their red coloration
Companion stem plant with similar care requirements; creates layered aquascaping depth
Low-growing companion plant that complements tall Rotala Vietnam in background/midground layouts
Gentle algae eater that grazes without damaging plant stems; prefers the same pristine water conditions
Common Diseases
Nutrient Deficiency (Iron/Macronutrients)
Yellowing leaves, stunted growth, pale coloration, loss of red pigmentation
Increase fertilizer dosing with all-in-one or macronutrient supplements; ensure CO2 levels are adequate (30-40 ppm); test water parameters and adjust accordingly
Algae Overgrowth (Green Spot, Black Beard)
Green or black algae coating on leaves and stems, reduced light penetration, plant decline
Increase water changes (50% weekly), reduce lighting duration to 8-10 hours daily, add algae-eating shrimp (Red Cherry, Amano), manually remove affected leaves, ensure CO2 is stable
Melting (Tissue Decay)
Leaves become translucent, mushy, and dissolve; stems weaken and collapse
Improve water quality with frequent partial water changes; ensure stable temperature (24-26°C), adequate CO2, and consistent lighting; remove severely affected stems and replant healthy cuttings
Poor Coloration (Pale/Green Leaves)
Loss of red pigmentation, leaves remain green instead of pink-red, weak growth
Increase light intensity (8-10 hours daily at 60+ PAR); boost CO2 injection to 30-40 ppm; add comprehensive fertilizers with micronutrients; ensure phosphate and potassium levels are sufficient
