Rotala Vietnam H'ra

Rotala vietnam H'ra

📍 Southeast Asia

Ask Finn

Rotala Vietnam H'ra is a vibrant stem plant featuring narrow, elongated leaves with striking red-orange coloration, especially under high light and CO2 enrichment. This cultivar displays excellent color intensity and a compact, bushy growth habit, making it ideal for mid-to-background placement in planted aquariums.

Common Diseases

Melt on Transition

Symptoms

Leaves become translucent, mushy, and dissolve; typically occurs after planting or during acclimation to new water parameters

Treatment

Ensure stable water parameters (pH, temperature, hardness); provide high light and CO2; trim affected portions and allow new growth; avoid drastic water changes

Iron Deficiency (Chlorosis)

Symptoms

Yellowing of new leaves while veins remain green; stunted growth; pale coloration loss

Treatment

Dose liquid iron fertilizer (chelated iron) 2-3 times weekly; ensure adequate lighting and CO2 to support nutrient uptake; check for excess phosphate which can lock up iron

Algae on Leaves

Symptoms

Green, brown, or black algae coating leaf surfaces; reduced photosynthesis; plant appears dull

Treatment

Increase water circulation; reduce photoperiod to 8-10 hours daily; manually remove algae; add algae-eating shrimp or fish; maintain nutrient balance to prevent excess phosphate

Nutrient Deficiency (Macros/Micros)

Symptoms

Slow growth; pale or yellowing leaves; leaf curling or distortion; loss of red coloration

Treatment

Dose comprehensive all-in-one fertilizer or separate macro (NPK) and micro (trace elements) fertilizers; perform 25-30% weekly water changes; ensure adequate lighting and CO2
