Alternanthera Reineckii Rosanervig

Variety of Alternanthera Reineckii · rosanervig
📍 South America (cultivar)
Rosanervig is a striking cultivar of Alternanthera with green upper leaf surfaces crossed by vivid pink-white veining, while the undersides remain deep red-pink. The contrasting vein pattern is unique in the aquatic plant world and makes it a focal accent in Dutch and Nature Aquarium layouts. Requires good light and CO2 for the best colour expression.
Tank Mates
Peaceful algae-eaters that won't damage plant leaves and help maintain tank cleanliness
Small, non-aggressive schooling fish that provide visual contrast and won't uproot or consume plants
Gentle invertebrates that graze algae and won't damage delicate plant tissue
Complementary stem plant with similar care requirements and growth rate for cohesive aquascaping
Foreground plant that pairs well in Dutch layouts; requires similar high-light conditions
Peaceful dwarf cichlid that won't uproot plants and adds color without aggression
Common Diseases
Nutrient Deficiency (Iron/Macronutrients)
Yellowing leaves, pale coloration, loss of pink-white veining, stunted growth
Increase fertilizer dosing (liquid all-in-one or separate macro/micro fertilizers). Ensure CO2 is adequate and lighting is high. Test water parameters and adjust based on results.
Algae Overgrowth (Black Beard Algae)
Dark, hair-like algae coating on leaves and stems, reduced light penetration
Increase water changes, reduce light duration to 8-10 hours daily, boost CO2 levels, and manually remove affected leaves. Add algae-eating shrimp or fish like Otocinclus.
Melting (Leaf Deterioration)
Leaves becoming translucent, mushy, or dissolving; sudden leaf loss
Ensure stable water parameters (pH 6.0-7.0, temperature 22-28°C). Increase CO2 and light gradually if recently added. Perform 25-30% water changes and remove decaying tissue.
Slow Growth or Pale Coloration
Minimal new growth, loss of pink-white vein contrast, weak stems
Verify CO2 injection is functioning (target 20-30 ppm). Increase light intensity to 8-10 hours daily. Boost macro and micronutrient fertilization and ensure substrate contains nutrients.
