Anubias Nana Golden

Anubias barteri var. nana Golden

📍 West Africa

Ask Finn

Anubias Nana Golden is a compact, slow-growing rhizome plant prized for its distinctive golden-yellow foliage that intensifies under moderate lighting. This dwarf variety features small, heart-shaped leaves and is ideal for creating focal points in foreground to midground aquascapes. Its hardy nature and low maintenance requirements make it perfect for beginners and experienced aquarists alike.

Common Diseases

Rhizome Rot

Symptoms

Soft, blackened rhizome; foul odor; leaves yellowing and detaching from rhizome

Treatment

Ensure rhizome is never buried in substrate; improve water circulation; remove affected portions with sterile tools; reattach healthy sections to new hardscape

Algae Overgrowth on Leaves

Symptoms

Green or brown algae coating leaf surfaces; reduced light penetration; stunted appearance

Treatment

Increase water circulation; reduce lighting duration; manually remove algae with soft brush; introduce algae-eating shrimp (Amano or Red Cherry); maintain nutrient balance to prevent excess algae

Leaf Yellowing / Iron Deficiency

Symptoms

Yellowing of new leaves while veins remain green; pale, washed-out appearance

Treatment

Add liquid all-in-one fertilizer or iron supplement weekly; ensure adequate lighting to support photosynthesis; check water parameters for nutrient imbalances

Melting on Transition

Symptoms

Leaves becoming transparent, mushy, or dissolving after planting; rapid leaf loss

Treatment

This is normal during acclimation; maintain stable water parameters; ensure good water circulation; do not remove affected leaves immediately—new growth will emerge; be patient (2–4 weeks)
