Common Diseases

Nutrient Deficiency

Symptoms

Yellowing leaves, stunted growth, pale coloration, leaf holes or transparent patches

Treatment

Increase fertilizer dosing with all-in-one liquid fertilizers; add macronutrients (nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium) and trace elements; consider root tabs if substrate is depleted

Algae Overgrowth

Symptoms

Green or brown algae coating leaves, reduced light penetration, plant appearance obscured

Treatment

Reduce lighting duration to 8-10 hours daily; increase water changes; add algae-eating shrimp or fish; manually remove visible algae; ensure adequate plant fertilization to outcompete algae

Melting

Symptoms

Rapid leaf decay, mushy stems, plant disintegration within days to weeks

Treatment

Improve water quality with frequent water changes; ensure adequate lighting and CO2; increase water circulation; trim affected portions and replant healthy stems; verify temperature is within acceptable range

Root Rot

Symptoms

Blackened or mushy roots, foul odor from substrate, poor growth despite adequate fertilization

Treatment

Improve substrate drainage and water circulation; reduce organic waste accumulation; perform partial water changes; consider replanting in fresh substrate; ensure adequate oxygen levels in the tank
