Bucephalandra Dark Achilles
Bucephalandra sp. 'Dark Achilles'
Plantae›Tracheophyta›Magnoliopsida›Alismatales›Araceae
📍 Borneo
Very dark, almost black-green Buce with a metallic blue shimmer. Narrow, elongated leaves. Dramatic looking on dark hardscape.
Tank Mates
Shrimp graze on biofilm and algae without damaging plant tissue; they benefit the plant's ecosystem
Small, gentle algae eaters that won't uproot or damage delicate leaves
Excellent companion plant with similar low-light requirements and slow growth rate
Creates lush foreground contrast while thriving in identical low-light conditions
Small, peaceful fish that won't disturb the plant or uproot it from hardscape
Larger shrimp species that actively maintains tank cleanliness without harming plant leaves
Common Diseases
Algae Overgrowth
Green or brown algae coating leaves, reduced light penetration, plant appears smothered
Reduce lighting duration to 6-8 hours daily, increase water changes, manually remove algae with soft brush, add algae-eating shrimp or fish
Nutrient Deficiency
Yellowing or pale leaves, stunted growth, loss of metallic blue coloration
Dose liquid all-in-one fertilizer weekly, ensure adequate macro and micronutrients, perform regular water changes to replenish minerals
Rhizome Rot
Soft, blackened rhizome, foul odor, leaves detaching from base
Ensure rhizome is not buried in substrate, improve water circulation, remove affected portions with sterile tools, increase water changes
Melting
Leaves becoming translucent and dissolving, rapid tissue breakdown
Maintain stable water parameters (pH 6.0-7.5, temperature 23-28°C), avoid drastic environmental changes, ensure plant is properly attached above substrate
