Common Diseases

Algae Overgrowth

Symptoms

Green, brown, or black algae coating plant leaves; reduced light penetration to plant surface

Treatment

Reduce lighting duration to 6-8 hours daily, increase water changes, add algae-eating shrimp or fish like Amano Shrimp, and manually remove algae with a soft brush

Nutrient Deficiency

Symptoms

Yellowing or pale leaves, stunted growth, leaf holes or transparent patches

Treatment

Dose liquid all-in-one fertilizer (Thrive, Flourish) weekly per instructions; ensure adequate bioload from fish waste; test water parameters and adjust dosing accordingly

Rhizome Rot

Symptoms

Blackening or mushy rhizome, foul odor, plant detachment from hardscape

Treatment

Ensure rhizome is not buried in substrate; improve water circulation with gentle flow; perform 30% water changes weekly; remove affected portions with sterilized tools and reattach healthy sections

Melting

Symptoms

Rapid leaf deterioration, transparent or dissolving leaves, plant collapse

Treatment

Maintain stable water parameters (pH 6.0-7.5, temp 23-28°C); avoid sudden environmental changes; ensure adequate lighting; increase water change frequency and add fertilizer to support recovery
