Cryptocoryne Hudoroi
Cryptocoryne hudoroi
Plantae›Tracheophyta›Magnoliopsida›Alismatales›Araceae
📍 Southeast Asia
Tall crypt with dramatic, heavily bullated (textured) leaves. Slow-growing but creates stunning focal points. From Borneo limestone streams.
Tank Mates
Peaceful algae grazers that won't damage plant leaves and help maintain tank cleanliness
Gentle bottom-dweller that respects plants and adds color without aggression
Algae-eating invertebrates that benefit from plant cover and won't harm established crypts
Companion plant with similar low-light tolerance and slow growth; creates layered aquascaping
Low-light moss that pairs well with crypts and provides additional shelter for small fauna
Larger shrimp species that maintains algae control without damaging plant tissue
Common Diseases
Crypt Rot
Rapid melting of leaves, blackening of rhizome, foul odor from substrate around plant base
Remove affected portions immediately, improve water circulation and substrate aeration, reduce organic buildup, perform 30% water change, ensure adequate CO2 and nutrients
Nutrient Deficiency
Yellowing or pale leaves, stunted growth, holes in leaf tissue, loss of bullation texture
Dose all-in-one fertilizer weekly, test water for macronutrients (nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium), consider root tabs for substrate supplementation, ensure adequate lighting
Algae Overgrowth on Leaves
Green or brown algae coating leaf surfaces, reduced light penetration to plant tissue
Increase water circulation, reduce photoperiod to 8-10 hours daily, add algae-eating fauna (Otocinclus, shrimp), manually remove algae with soft brush, maintain nutrient balance
Rhizome Rot
Soft, mushy rhizome that crumbles easily, foul smell, failure to produce new growth
Remove plant and inspect rhizome carefully, trim away all soft tissue with sterile tools, replant in fresh substrate with improved drainage, reduce substrate compaction
