Cryptocoryne Lucens

Cryptocoryne lucens

PlantaeTracheophytaMagnoliopsidaAlismatalesAraceae

📍 South Asia

Cryptocoryne Lucens is a small, narrow-leaved crypt with plain bright-green foliage, reaching about 10–15 cm (3.9–5.9 in) in height. It spreads via runners to form a tidy clump over time and is one of the easiest crypts to keep, tolerating a wide range of conditions including harder water. An excellent choice for foreground or midground planting without the demanding care of more ornate crypt species.

Common Diseases

Cryptocoryne Rot

Symptoms

Leaves turn translucent, mushy stems, foul odor, rapid leaf melt

Treatment

Remove affected leaves immediately, improve water circulation, reduce organic waste, perform 30% water changes, ensure substrate is not compacted; may require replanting in fresh substrate if severe

Nutrient Deficiency

Symptoms

Stunted growth, yellowing leaves, pale coloration, smaller new leaves

Treatment

Add root tabs beneath the plant, dose liquid all-in-one fertilizer weekly, ensure adequate macronutrients (nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium) and micronutrients (iron, boron)

Algae Overgrowth

Symptoms

Green or brown algae coating leaves, reduced light penetration, plant appears smothered

Treatment

Reduce light duration to 6–8 hours daily, increase water changes, add algae-eating fish or shrimp, gently brush algae off leaves, maintain nutrient balance to prevent excess algae

Melting

Symptoms

Leaves dissolve or become transparent, plant appears to shrink, new growth fails to emerge

Treatment

Ensure stable water parameters (pH 6.0–7.8, temperature 22–28°C), improve water circulation, reduce light temporarily, maintain consistent fertilization, allow 2–4 weeks for acclimation and recovery
