Echinodorus Aflame
Echinodorus sp. 'Aflame'
Plantae›Tracheophyta›Magnoliopsida›Alismatales›Alismataceae
📍 Captive-bred (hybrid)
Compact sword with deep crimson new growth. Stays smaller than most swords — suitable for tanks as small as 10 gallons. Easy and rewarding.
Tank Mates
Peaceful algae eaters that won't damage plant leaves and help maintain tank cleanliness
Gentle invertebrates that won't uproot or damage the plant while adding visual interest
Small, peaceful schooling fish that complement planted tanks without disturbing substrate or plants
Excellent companion plant with similar care requirements and complementary growth form
Low-maintenance foreground plant that creates layered aquascaping with the Aflame sword
Peaceful bottom dweller that may occasionally dig but generally compatible with rooted plants
Common Diseases
Nutrient Deficiency
Yellowing leaves, stunted growth, pale new growth, loss of red coloration
Increase fertilizer dosing, add root tabs, ensure adequate lighting and CO2 supplementation; test water parameters
Algae Overgrowth on Leaves
Green or brown algae coating leaf surfaces, reduced photosynthesis
Reduce lighting duration to 8-10 hours daily, increase water changes, add algae-eating fish like Otocinclus, manually remove affected leaves
Leaf Melt
Rapid deterioration and dissolution of leaves, particularly new growth
Improve water quality with frequent partial water changes, ensure stable temperature (23-28°C), reduce stress by avoiding sudden parameter changes
Root Rot
Blackened or mushy roots, plant instability, slow growth despite good conditions
Improve substrate drainage, increase water circulation, replace substrate if severely affected, trim affected roots and replant in fresh substrate
