Common Diseases

Nutrient Deficiency (Iron/Macronutrient)

Symptoms

Yellowing or pale leaves, stunted growth, loss of vibrant coloration, leaves becoming translucent

Treatment

Increase fertilizer dosing with all-in-one liquid fertilizers or add iron-specific supplements; ensure adequate lighting and CO2 for nutrient uptake

Algae Overgrowth (Green/Brown Algae)

Symptoms

Carpet covered with visible algae film, reduced plant visibility, slower growth rate

Treatment

Reduce lighting duration to 6-8 hours daily, increase water changes, add algae-eating fauna (Otocinclus, shrimp), and maintain consistent CO2 levels

Melting/Tissue Decay

Symptoms

Leaves becoming transparent, mushy texture, plant dissolving or disintegrating

Treatment

Improve water quality with frequent water changes, ensure stable temperature (23-28°C), increase CO2 and lighting gradually, and remove dead tissue

Poor Growth/Stagnation

Symptoms

Minimal new growth, plant remaining at same size for weeks, leaves appearing weak or pale

Treatment

Increase CO2 injection, boost lighting to medium-high levels, add comprehensive fertilization, and ensure substrate contains nutrients or use root tabs
