Common Diseases

Coral Bleaching

Symptoms

Loss of color, pale or white appearance, visible zooxanthellae expulsion

Treatment

Reduce light intensity temporarily, check water parameters (calcium, alkalinity, temperature stability), improve water flow, maintain stable conditions

Brown Jelly Disease

Symptoms

Brown mucus-like film spreading across coral surface, tissue recession, visible deterioration

Treatment

Isolate affected coral if possible, perform targeted water changes, improve water quality and flow, consider antibiotic dips in severe cases

Parasitic Infections

Symptoms

Visible spots or discoloration, tissue damage, reduced polyp extension, mucus coating

Treatment

Improve water quality and flow, maintain stable parameters, consider copper-based treatments only in quarantine (avoid in reef tanks)

Nutrient Deficiency

Symptoms

Pale coloration, reduced polyp extension, slow growth, loss of vibrancy

Treatment

Increase feeding frequency with meaty foods, supplement with trace elements and amino acids, ensure adequate lighting for zooxanthellae
