Tank Mates
Reef-safe fish that won't nip at coral polyps; commonly kept with brain corals
Beneficial invertebrate that maintains reef health without harming corals
Small, peaceful fish that won't disturb the coral or compete for space
Reef-safe grazer that helps control algae without bothering corals
Peaceful bottom-dweller that won't interact negatively with sessile corals
Common Diseases
Brown Jelly Disease
Brown, gelatinous film covering coral tissue; rapid tissue recession; visible necrosis
Isolate affected coral if possible; perform large water changes; remove affected tissue with clean tools; treat with antibiotics or iodine dips in quarantine
Coral Bleaching
Loss of color; polyps appear white or pale; reduced feeding response
Reduce light intensity and temperature stress; improve water quality with frequent changes; ensure adequate water flow; maintain stable parameters
Parasitic Infection
Visible spots or discoloration on coral; excessive mucus production; polyp retraction
Improve water quality and flow; perform dips in freshwater or medicated baths; treat main tank with copper-free parasite treatments if necessary
Tissue Necrosis
Localized tissue death; dark patches; progressive tissue loss from edges
Improve water parameters (especially calcium and alkalinity); increase water flow; remove dead tissue; maintain stable temperature and lighting
