GloFish Corydoras
Corydoras aeneus
Animalia›Chordata›Actinopterygii
Variety of Bronze Corydoras · GloFish
📍 Captive-bred (hybrid)
GloFish Corydoras are fluorescent variants of the Bronze Corydoras, engineered to glow under blue LED or UV lighting. They are the same peaceful, bottom-dwelling schooling catfish as their wild-type counterparts — best kept in groups of 6+ and excellent community fish. They scavenge leftover food and help keep the substrate clean.
Care Guide
Diet
GloFish Corydoras are omnivorous bottom feeders that consume sinking pellets, algae wafers, and frozen foods like bloodworms and brine shrimp. Feed small amounts once daily, providing only what they can consume in 2-3 minutes. They will scavenge leftover food from the substrate, supplementing their diet naturally.
Behavior
These peaceful catfish are highly social and must be kept in groups of 6 or more to exhibit natural schooling behavior and reduce stress. They spend most of their time on the substrate, sifting through gravel and sand in search of food, and are most active during dawn and dusk. Under blue LED or UV lighting, their fluorescent coloration creates a striking visual display.
Breeding
Breeding GloFish Corydoras in captivity is difficult and rarely successful in home aquariums. They require specific water conditions, cooler temperatures (around 72°F), and plenty of hiding spaces with fine substrate for spawning. Most specimens in the hobby are commercially bred, and natural reproduction is uncommon.
Tank Mates
Similar water parameters and peaceful temperament; occupy different water zones
Both bottom dwellers with identical water needs; non-competitive algae grazers
Peaceful mid-water dweller; compatible temperature and pH ranges
Peaceful invertebrate; shares similar water parameters and bottom habitat
Schooling fish with matching water requirements; peaceful community species
Common Diseases
Ich (White Spot Disease)
White spots on body and fins, rapid breathing, rubbing against substrate
Raise temperature to 79°F, perform 25% water changes, use ich medication; quarantine affected fish if possible
Fin Rot
Frayed or deteriorating fins, discoloration at fin edges, lethargy
Improve water quality with frequent water changes, reduce stocking density, use antibacterial medication if severe
Barbel Erosion
Shortened or missing barbels, difficulty locating food
Use fine sand substrate instead of sharp gravel, maintain excellent water quality, ensure adequate nutrition
Columnaris
Whitish film on body, mouth rot, loss of appetite, rapid gill movement
Perform daily water changes, use antibacterial medication, maintain water temperature at 75-77°F
