Green Laser Corydoras
Corydoras sp. 'CW009'
Animalia›Chordata›Actinopterygii
📍 South America
An undescribed Corydoras species (CW009) from Peru featuring a striking neon-green iridescent stripe running from snout to tail base against a darker body, giving it an almost laser-beam appearance. Highly sought after by corydoras enthusiasts, it requires the same care as other corydoras: groups of 6+, fine sand substrate, and clean, well-oxygenated water.
Care Guide
Diet
Green Laser Corydoras are omnivorous bottom feeders that consume sinking pellets, algae wafers, and frozen foods like bloodworms and brine shrimp. Feed small amounts once daily, ensuring food reaches the substrate where they forage. They also benefit from occasional vegetable matter and will scavenge leftover food from other tank inhabitants.
Behavior
These peaceful catfish are nocturnal and most active during dawn and dusk, spending much of their time sifting through the substrate in search of food. They are social fish that should always be kept in groups of 6 or more to reduce stress and encourage natural schooling behavior. They rarely interact with other fish but may occasionally interact with tankmates during feeding times.
Breeding
Breeding Green Laser Corydoras in captivity is difficult and rarely documented due to their undescribed status and specific environmental requirements. Successful breeding would likely require cooler water temperatures (around 72°F), pristine water conditions, and conditioning with live foods. Fry care would be challenging, as with most corydoras species, requiring infusoria and micro foods.
Tank Mates
Similar peaceful temperament and bottom-dwelling habits; compatible water parameters
Peaceful mid-water swimmers that won't compete for bottom space or food
Gentle schooling fish with identical water parameter requirements
Peaceful and occupy different water zones; avoid aggressive individuals
Peaceful invertebrates that share bottom habitat; ensure adequate hiding spaces
Common Diseases
Ich (Ichthyophthirius multifiliis)
White spots on body and fins, rapid breathing, lethargy, rubbing against objects
Raise temperature gradually to 79°F, perform daily 25% water changes, use ich medication following label instructions; maintain excellent water quality
Fin Rot
Frayed or deteriorating fins, discoloration at fin edges, fin loss
Perform 50% water change immediately, improve water quality and aeration, treat with antibacterial medication if severe; ensure substrate is clean and soft
Barbel Erosion
Shortened or missing barbels, difficulty locating food, behavioral changes
Improve substrate quality by using fine sand instead of gravel, enhance water quality with frequent changes, ensure adequate nutrition with varied foods
Bacterial Infection
Open sores, cloudy eyes, loss of appetite, lethargy, discoloration
Perform 50% water change, maintain pristine water conditions, treat with broad-spectrum antibacterial medication; isolate if possible to prevent spread
