Hemianthus Micranthemoides
Hemianthus micranthemoides
Plantae›Tracheophyta›Magnoliopsida›Linderniaceae
📍 North America
A popular stem plant producing tiny, round, bright green leaves in whorls of three to four, creating a fine-textured, dense appearance. It can be grown as a mid-ground bush or as a foreground carpet with regular trimming. Easier to maintain than HC Cuba but provides a similar compact, fine-leaved look.
Tank Mates
Peaceful algae grazers that won't uproot or damage delicate plant tissue
Small, non-destructive shrimp that help control algae and thrive in planted tanks
Complementary foreground plant with similar care requirements and aesthetic appeal
Peaceful schooling fish that won't disturb plants and prefer densely planted environments
Excellent algae control without damaging plant leaves; compatible with intermediate plant care
Companion plant with similar water parameter tolerance and low-light adaptability
Common Diseases
Nutrient Deficiency
Yellowing leaves, stunted growth, pale coloration, leaf holes or necrosis
Dose liquid fertilizer containing macronutrients (NPK) and micronutrients (iron, trace elements) 2-3 times weekly; consider root tabs if substrate is depleted
Algae Overgrowth
Green, brown, or black algae coating plant surfaces; reduced light penetration to leaves
Reduce light duration to 8-10 hours daily, increase water changes, add algae-eating fish or shrimp, manually remove visible algae, improve water circulation
Melting
Leaves become translucent, mushy, and dissolve; stems become soft and deteriorate
Improve water quality with frequent partial water changes; ensure stable temperature (20-26°C); increase CO2 injection if available; trim affected portions and allow new growth
Slow Growth
Minimal new leaf development, weak stems, pale appearance despite adequate lighting
Increase light intensity to medium-high levels; boost CO2 supplementation; dose comprehensive fertilizers; ensure water parameters remain within range (pH 6.0-7.0, 2-10 dGH)
