Ludwigia Mullertii
Ludwigia palustris × repens
📍 Hybrid cultivar (South America origin of parent species)
Ludwigia Mullertii is a hybrid stem plant known for its striking red-to-pink coloration on the undersides of leaves, especially under high light. It features narrow, lance-shaped leaves and a moderately fast growth rate, making it an excellent choice for mid-to-background placement in planted aquariums. This cultivar is more forgiving than some Ludwigia species and responds well to fertilization and CO2 supplementation.
Tank Mates
Non-destructive algae eaters that won't uproot or damage stems
Small, peaceful schooling fish that won't disturb plant roots
Peaceful mid-water dweller; may occasionally nibble soft plant tips but generally compatible
Algae-eating bottom dweller that helps maintain plant health by controlling algae
Gentle scavengers that won't uproot or damage plant tissue
Common Diseases
Melt on Transition
Leaves become translucent, mushy, and fall off when plant is first introduced or conditions change drastically
Gradually acclimate plant to new water parameters; ensure stable lighting, temperature, and nutrient levels; trim affected leaves and maintain water quality
Iron Deficiency (Chlorosis)
Yellowing of new leaves while veins remain green; stunted growth; pale coloration loss
Dose with liquid iron fertilizer (chelated iron); increase macronutrient fertilization; ensure adequate lighting to promote nutrient uptake
Algae Overgrowth on Leaves
Green, brown, or black algae coating leaf surfaces; reduced photosynthesis and plant vigor
Increase water circulation; reduce lighting duration if excessive; add algae-eating fauna (Amano shrimp, Otocinclus); perform manual removal; consider algaecide if severe
Nutrient Deficiency (Macronutrients)
Slow growth; pale or yellowing leaves; weak stem development; poor red coloration
Dose with comprehensive liquid fertilizer containing nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium; consider root tabs for substrate; increase water change frequency to replenish nutrients
