Nymphoides sp. 'Taiwan'

PlantaeTracheophytaMagnoliopsidaMenyanthaceae

📍 Taiwan

Ask Finn

Taiwan Nymphoides produces attractive round-to-heart-shaped leaves with reddish-brown mottling on the underside. It spreads by runners and can be kept compact with regular trimming. Unlike surface-growing Nymphoides, it stays submerged in good lighting. A distinctive mid-ground to background plant with a bold, pond-like aesthetic.

Common Diseases

Nutrient Deficiency

Symptoms

Yellowing or pale leaves, stunted growth, loss of red coloration on undersides

Treatment

Increase fertilizer dosing (macro and micronutrients), consider adding root tabs, and ensure adequate lighting to support photosynthesis

Algae Overgrowth on Leaves

Symptoms

Green or brown algae coating leaf surfaces, reduced light penetration to plant tissue

Treatment

Increase water changes, reduce lighting duration, add algae-eating fish or shrimp, and gently brush affected leaves

Melting or Leaf Rot

Symptoms

Leaves becoming translucent, mushy texture, rapid leaf loss

Treatment

Improve water circulation, reduce organic waste buildup, perform frequent water changes, and trim affected leaves promptly

Slow Growth or Stunting

Symptoms

Minimal new leaf development, small leaf size, pale coloration

Treatment

Verify CO₂ supplementation is beneficial, increase light intensity to medium-high levels, boost fertilizer regimen, and ensure stable water parameters
