Nymphoides Taiwan
Nymphoides sp. 'Taiwan'
Plantae›Tracheophyta›Magnoliopsida›Menyanthaceae
📍 Taiwan
Taiwan Nymphoides produces attractive round-to-heart-shaped leaves with reddish-brown mottling on the underside. It spreads by runners and can be kept compact with regular trimming. Unlike surface-growing Nymphoides, it stays submerged in good lighting. A distinctive mid-ground to background plant with a bold, pond-like aesthetic.
Tank Mates
Peaceful algae grazers that won't damage plant leaves and help maintain tank cleanliness
Small, non-aggressive fish that add color and movement without harming plants
Gentle invertebrates that graze algae and won't uproot or damage plant tissue
Complementary foreground plant that creates layered aquascaping with Taiwan Nymphoides
Low-light companion plant with contrasting leaf shape and growth pattern
Peaceful bottom-dweller that won't disturb plant roots or leaves
Common Diseases
Nutrient Deficiency
Yellowing or pale leaves, stunted growth, loss of red coloration on undersides
Increase fertilizer dosing (macro and micronutrients), consider adding root tabs, and ensure adequate lighting to support photosynthesis
Algae Overgrowth on Leaves
Green or brown algae coating leaf surfaces, reduced light penetration to plant tissue
Increase water changes, reduce lighting duration, add algae-eating fish or shrimp, and gently brush affected leaves
Melting or Leaf Rot
Leaves becoming translucent, mushy texture, rapid leaf loss
Improve water circulation, reduce organic waste buildup, perform frequent water changes, and trim affected leaves promptly
Slow Growth or Stunting
Minimal new leaf development, small leaf size, pale coloration
Verify CO₂ supplementation is beneficial, increase light intensity to medium-high levels, boost fertilizer regimen, and ensure stable water parameters
