Setting the stage

This tank was started a month ago using hard scape and water from active tanks. For the first 4 weeks I used a sponge filter from a different tank to kickstart the cycle and make it stable. I have man

Spoke too soon

After marveling at only losing one shrimp so far, I saw one beneath the Amazon Sword leaves this morning. RIP shrimpy. Hopefully it was just age. We are still seeing plenty of baby and juvenile shrimp

Update

T@terrathomasTen Gallon1w

So. Many. Babies.

Baby shrimp of all sizes all over. Still only see 6-8 adults at a time, but as far as I know, we have only lost that one in the first few weeks of having them. I haven’t seen any other bodies, and the

Note for finn

The water test today for the nitrate of 40 pmm was done pretty late from the 5 min wait time that is recommended. The test could be a little inaccurate as a result.

CO2 gassing off properly

I realized that when I reduced the light period to control BBA I forgot to adjust the time for CO2 solenoid to turn off, which kept injecting up to an hour after lights went off. I adjusted the timer

Solution

@mateocoelloCory Cove2w

They’re okay

Cory habrosus are a very skittish species. Any sudden movement close the tank prompts them to hide very fast. During feeding time that stays the same. One tiny brawl between shrimps fighting for a sin

Update

Found the 6th

I was right. I saw all 6 pygmy corys today confirming that all fish are fine and healthy. They’re simply incredibly good at hiding.

Transitioning from Frogbit to salvinia

Somehow I hardly have any salvinia, but when it fills in a bit more I will remove the remainder of my Frogbit. I also made my tubing corrals smaller. As other Amazon Sword and Anubias grow, I have les

The Great Banishing

Ok so my last update was all about a hydra infestation. This one will be all about how I got my tank back! For about a week I dosed the tank with hydrogen peroxide (I know, a dose every other day may

Trim

The roots are out of control

I trimmed roots and thinned some Frogbit, but it is still a little ooc. I tested and changed water, too. I might do a little more trimming tomorrow.

Buffer filter flow

I added a little sponge to the filter output and surface agitation was reduced 90%. CO2 is more stable but I think it’s struggling to gas-off during the night. Woke up to drop checker still apple gree

Update

@angelajohnstonSnail City3w

Uh oh, I did a thing.

So I had zero intention of getting another betta. Zero. Then I literally ran into an acquaintance who told me she a) recently got a fish bowl for her kid and put a betta in it. And b) absolutely hated

BBA

BBA has spread to this tank as well. In both Shrimptopia and here it’s growing in high flow areas. I’m spot-treating with peroxide.

Trim

T@terrathomasTen Gallon4w

Trimmed roots

Really cut back Frogbit roots. They get out of hand fast. Looks much better now. Leaves of Frogbit are getting larger. Trimmed moss after water change, so loose bits will settle and grow.
