Albino Longfin Bristlenose Pleco
Ancistrus sp.
Animalia›Chordata›Actinopterygii
Variety of Bristlenose Pleco · albino longfin
📍 South America
The Albino Longfin Bristlenose Pleco combines the pale coloration of the albino form with elongated flowing fins. A visually striking variant that requires smooth decorations and gentle filtration to protect its delicate fins.
Care Guide
Diet
Albino Longfin Bristlenose Plecos are primarily herbivorous and should be fed high-quality algae wafers or vegetable-based pellets daily, supplemented with blanched vegetables like zucchini, spinach, and cucumber 2-3 times weekly. They will also graze on algae in the tank and benefit from occasional protein sources such as frozen bloodworms or small amounts of sinking pellets.
Behavior
These plecos are nocturnal and spend most daylight hours hiding in caves, driftwood, or dense vegetation. They are generally peaceful and solitary, becoming more active during evening and night hours when they forage and explore. Males may become territorial toward other plecos, so they should be housed individually or in very large tanks with multiple hiding spots.
Breeding
Breeding Albino Longfin Bristlenose Plecos in captivity is moderately difficult and requires specific conditions including caves or PVC pipes for spawning, stable water parameters, and patience. Males guard eggs and fry, which typically hatch in 5-7 days and become free-swimming within 2-3 weeks. Successful breeding is possible for dedicated hobbyists but requires careful planning and appropriate tank setup.
Tank Mates
Similar peaceful algae-eating habits and water requirements; minimal competition
Small, peaceful schooling fish that won't compete for food or space
Peaceful community fish with similar water temperature preferences
Algae-eating invertebrates that coexist peacefully; avoid very small shrimp species
Common Diseases
Ich (Ichthyophthirius multifiliis)
White spots on body and fins, lethargy, rubbing against surfaces, rapid breathing
Raise temperature gradually to 28-30°C, perform frequent water changes, use aquarium salt or commercial ich treatment; maintain excellent water quality
Fin Rot
Fraying or deterioration of fin edges, discoloration at fin bases, lethargy
Improve water quality through increased water changes, remove decaying matter, use antibacterial medication if severe; ensure gentle filtration to protect delicate longfins
Bacterial Infections
Open sores, cloudy eyes, loss of appetite, color fading, torn fins
Perform large water changes, maintain pristine water conditions, use broad-spectrum antibacterial treatment; isolate if severely affected
Malnutrition/Vitamin Deficiency
Stunted growth, faded coloration, lethargy, poor fin development
Provide varied diet with quality algae wafers, fresh vegetables, and occasional protein; ensure adequate feeding frequency and nutritional balance
