Anubias Glabra
Anubias barteri var. glabra
Plantae›Tracheophyta›Magnoliopsida›Alismatales›Araceae
📍 West Africa
Narrow, elongated Anubias with pointed leaves. Grows taller than common Anubias varieties. Extremely hardy epiphyte.
Tank Mates
Will not damage plant leaves and help control algae growth on the plant
Peaceful algae grazers that won't uproot or consume the plant
Gentle algae eaters that respect plants and help keep them clean
Small, peaceful fish that won't disturb the plant or uproot it
Excellent companion plant with similar low-light requirements and slow growth
Compatible foreground/midground plant with similar hardy nature and care requirements
Common Diseases
Rhizome Rot
Soft, mushy rhizome; dark discoloration; foul odor; leaf yellowing and melting
Remove affected plant, trim away rotted portions with sterile tools, and replant in clean substrate. Improve water circulation and reduce organic buildup. Ensure rhizome is not buried in substrate.
Algae Overgrowth
Green, brown, or black algae coating leaves; reduced light penetration; plant appears smothered
Gently brush algae off leaves with a soft brush. Reduce lighting duration to 6-8 hours daily, increase water changes, and add algae-eating fish or shrimp like Amano Shrimp or Otocinclus.
Nutrient Deficiency
Slow or stunted growth; pale or yellowing new leaves; thin, weak stems
Dose liquid all-in-one fertilizer weekly according to package instructions. Ensure adequate lighting (low-medium) and consider adding macronutrients if deficiency persists.
Melting
Leaves become translucent, mushy, and dissolve; rapid leaf loss
Often occurs during acclimation to new tank conditions. Maintain stable water parameters, ensure good water circulation, and be patient—new leaves typically emerge within weeks as the plant adjusts.
