Anubias Nana Pinto

Anubias barteri var. nana Pinto

📍 West Africa

Ask Finn

Anubias Nana Pinto is a compact dwarf variety of Anubias barteri featuring distinctive variegated foliage with white, cream, and green patterning on its leaves. This slow-growing epiphytic plant reaches only 2-4 inches tall, making it ideal for small aquariums and foreground hardscape placement. Like all Anubias, it is extremely hardy and requires minimal care, thriving in low to medium light without CO2 supplementation.

Common Diseases

Rhizome Rot

Symptoms

Soft, blackened rhizome; mushy texture; foul odor; leaf yellowing and melting

Treatment

Ensure rhizome is not buried in substrate; improve water circulation; remove affected portions with sterile knife; check for ammonia/nitrite spikes

Algae on Leaves

Symptoms

Green, brown, or black algae coating leaf surfaces; reduced light penetration; variegation obscured

Treatment

Gently brush algae off with soft brush or cloth; reduce light duration to 8-10 hours daily; increase water changes; add algae-eating shrimp or fish

Leaf Yellowing / Iron Deficiency

Symptoms

Yellowing of new leaves while veins remain green; stunted growth; pale variegation

Treatment

Add comprehensive liquid fertilizer with iron; dose 1-2x weekly; ensure adequate micronutrients; check water parameters for deficiencies

Melting on Transition

Symptoms

Sudden leaf transparency, mushy texture, and leaf loss after planting or water parameter change

Treatment

Maintain stable water parameters; acclimate slowly to new tank conditions over 1-2 weeks; ensure adequate light and water flow; trim affected leaves
