Bucephalandra Titan
Bucephalandra sp. Titan
📍 Southeast Asia
Bucephalandra Titan is a large-leaved variant of Bucephalandra featuring broad, textured foliage with deep green coloration and distinctive wavy or crinkled leaf margins. This slow-growing epiphytic plant is prized for its dramatic appearance and ability to create striking focal points in aquascapes. Its substantial leaf size makes it ideal for mid-sized to larger aquariums where it can be attached to driftwood or rock.
Tank Mates
Peaceful algae eaters that do not disturb attached plants or rhizomes
Non-destructive and beneficial for algae control on plant leaves
Gentle algae grazers that respect plant structure and rhizomes
Small, peaceful schooling fish that do not uproot or damage attached plants
Complementary Bucephalandra variety for visual contrast and similar care requirements
Peaceful dwarf cichlid that respects plant attachments and provides activity
Common Diseases
Rhizome Rot
Softening or blackening of the rhizome, mushy texture, foul odor, leaf yellowing and melting
Ensure rhizome is not buried in substrate; improve water circulation and reduce organic waste; perform partial water changes; consider adding beneficial bacteria or treating with hydrogen peroxide in severe cases
Algae Overgrowth on Leaves
Green, brown, or black algae coating leaf surfaces; reduced light penetration to leaf tissue; stunted appearance
Increase water flow around plant; reduce photoperiod to 8-10 hours daily; add algae-eating fauna (Amano shrimp, Otocinclus); manually remove algae with soft brush; ensure adequate CO2 and nutrients
Iron Deficiency (Chlorosis)
Yellowing of new leaves while veins remain green; stunted growth; pale overall coloration
Dose liquid iron fertilizer (chelated iron) 1-2x weekly; ensure adequate lighting and CO2 to support nutrient uptake; check water parameters and adjust pH if needed
Melt on Transition
Rapid leaf deterioration, browning, and shedding when moved to new tank conditions; mushy leaf texture
Acclimate slowly over 1-2 weeks; maintain stable water parameters (pH, temperature, hardness); ensure consistent lighting and CO2; avoid drastic changes in water chemistry; new leaves will regrow once plant adjusts
