Classic crypt with dark green tops and reddish-brown undersides. One of the oldest aquarium crypts. Very hardy and forgiving.

Common Diseases

Cryptocoryne Rot

Symptoms

Melting or blackening of leaves, mushy stems, foul odor from substrate

Treatment

Improve water circulation, reduce organic buildup, perform partial water changes, remove affected leaves, ensure adequate substrate nutrients

Nutrient Deficiency

Symptoms

Yellowing leaves, stunted growth, pale new growth, leaf holes

Treatment

Add comprehensive liquid fertilizer or root tabs, ensure adequate lighting, test water parameters for macronutrients (nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium)

Algae Overgrowth

Symptoms

Green or brown algae coating leaves, reduced light penetration

Treatment

Reduce lighting duration to 6-8 hours daily, increase water changes, add algae-eating fish or shrimp, manually remove algae buildup

Bacterial Leaf Spot

Symptoms

Brown or black spots on leaves with yellow halos, progressive leaf damage

Treatment

Remove affected leaves promptly, improve water quality with frequent changes, reduce tank bioload, avoid overcrowding
