Cryptocoryne Albida
Cryptocoryne albida
Plantae›Tracheophyta›Magnoliopsida›Araceae
📍 Myanmar, Thailand
A slender Cryptocoryne with narrow, strap-like leaves that range from olive-green to brownish-red depending on light intensity. Submerged leaves are typically narrower and more reddish than the emersed form. Grows to a manageable 15–20 cm (6–8 in) and is suited to the midground of smaller tanks or the foreground of larger setups. Tolerates a range of water conditions and is one of the easier narrow-leaved Crypts.
Tank Mates
Peaceful algae grazers that won't damage delicate leaves and help maintain tank cleanliness
Small, non-destructive shrimp that graze algae and won't uproot or damage the plant
Peaceful schooling fish that provide activity without disturbing rooted plants
Excellent companion plant with similar care requirements and low-light tolerance
Compatible plant species with matching low-light needs and slow growth rate
Peaceful, non-aggressive fish that won't uproot plants or cause significant disturbance
Common Diseases
Cryptocoryne Rot
Leaves become translucent, mushy, or develop black spots; plant deteriorates rapidly
Improve water circulation and reduce humidity if emersed; perform partial water changes; remove affected leaves; ensure substrate is not waterlogged; may indicate poor water quality or bacterial infection
Nutrient Deficiency
Yellowing leaves, stunted growth, pale coloration, leaf holes or pinholes
Dose all-in-one liquid fertilizer 1-2 times weekly; ensure substrate contains nutrients; test water parameters; consider root tabs if substrate is depleted
Algae Overgrowth
Green, brown, or black algae coating leaves and stems; reduced light penetration
Reduce lighting duration to 6-8 hours daily; increase water changes; introduce algae-eating fish or shrimp; manually remove visible algae; avoid excess nutrients
Melting
Leaves dissolve or become transparent; plant appears to shrink; new growth fails to emerge
Common during acclimation to submerged conditions; maintain stable water parameters (pH 6.0-7.5, temperature 22-28°C); ensure adequate fertilization; be patient as plant usually recovers within 2-4 weeks
