Cryptocoryne Moehlmannii
Cryptocoryne moehlmannii
Plantae›Tracheophyta›Magnoliopsida›Alismatales›Araceae
📍 Sri Lanka
Compact crypt with smooth, spoon-shaped green leaves. Stays small — great for foreground use. Very easy and undemanding.
Tank Mates
Peaceful algae grazers that won't damage delicate leaves
Gentle invertebrates that help control algae without harming plants
Small, peaceful fish that add color without disturbing plant roots
Excellent companion plant with similar low-light tolerance and slow growth
Compatible foreground/midground plant that creates natural-looking aquascapes
Peaceful community fish that won't uproot or consume the plant
Common Diseases
Cryptocoryne Rot (Melt)
Leaves turn translucent, mushy, and dissolve; plant appears to be dying rapidly
Improve water stability, maintain consistent temperature (23-28°C), ensure adequate water circulation, and be patient—plants often recover within 2-4 weeks without intervention
Nutrient Deficiency
Yellowing leaves, stunted growth, pale coloration, or holes developing in leaf tissue
Add comprehensive liquid fertilizer (all-in-one or separate macro/micronutrient supplements) weekly; ensure substrate contains nutrient-rich material
Algae Overgrowth
Green or brown algae coating leaves, reducing light penetration and plant vigor
Reduce lighting duration to 6-8 hours daily, increase water changes, add algae-eating fish (Otocinclus) or shrimp, and manually remove excess algae
Root Rot
Black or mushy roots, foul odor from substrate, plant fails to grow despite good conditions
Improve substrate drainage, increase water circulation, reduce organic waste buildup, and consider replanting in fresh substrate if severely affected
