Cryptocoryne Nurii
Cryptocoryne nurii
Plantae›Tracheophyta›Magnoliopsida›Araceae
📍 Peninsula Malaysia
A highly sought-after Cryptocoryne among collectors, prized for its dramatically patterned leaves featuring brown-green to dark olive surfaces with reddish-brown splotches, spots, and a heavily bullate texture. Multiple forms exist — some have narrow leaves, others broader. Slower and more delicate than common Crypts, it rewards patient keepers with unique, jewel-like foliage. Best maintained in stable, soft, slightly acidic water with minimal disturbance.
Tank Mates
Peaceful algae grazers that won't uproot or damage delicate Cryptocoryne foliage
Small, gentle fish that thrive in soft, acidic water matching this plant's preferences
Beneficial scavengers that maintain tank cleanliness without disturbing the plant
Excellent companion plant with similar low-light tolerance and slow growth rate
Hardy moss that creates a natural aesthetic and provides additional plant diversity
Peaceful, small fish that prefer soft water and won't uproot or consume the plant
Common Diseases
Cryptocoryne Rot (Melt)
Rapid leaf dissolution, blackening of stems, foul odor from substrate, plant collapse within days
Immediately perform 50% water change, check and stabilize pH and hardness, remove affected leaves, reduce feeding/bioload, improve water circulation without direct flow on plant, and maintain consistent parameters
Nutrient Deficiency
Pale or yellowing leaves, stunted growth, loss of red coloration and pattern definition, thin new growth
Introduce liquid all-in-one fertilizer dosed weekly, ensure substrate is nutrient-rich, test water for macronutrients, and consider adding root tabs if using inert substrate
Algae Overgrowth
Green or brown algae coating leaves, reduced light penetration, plant appears smothered
Reduce lighting duration to 6-8 hours daily, perform manual removal, introduce algae-eating fish like Otocinclus, improve water circulation, and reduce excess nutrients from overfeeding
Bacterial Infection
Soft, mushy leaf tissue, translucent patches on leaves, foul water odor, rapid deterioration
Perform immediate 50% water change, remove all affected plant material, increase aeration, maintain pristine water quality, and avoid overcrowding; antibiotics are rarely effective on plants
