Cryptocoryne Parva

Cryptocoryne parva

PlantaeTracheophytaMagnoliopsidaAlismatalesAraceae

📍 South Asia

Cryptocoryne Parva is the smallest crypt species, producing narrow, plain-green leaves that rarely exceed 5–6 cm (2.0–2.4 in) — making it the only crypt truly suitable for a foreground carpet role. Growth is extremely slow even under good conditions; patience of several months is required before carpeting effect appears. It is also the least prone to 'crypt melt' among its genus.

Common Diseases

Crypt Melt

Symptoms

Leaves become translucent, mushy, and dissolve; plant appears to rot from the rhizome upward

Treatment

Improve water quality and stability; ensure adequate substrate nutrients and CO2; remove affected leaves; maintain consistent temperature and pH; this species is highly resistant compared to other crypts

Nutrient Deficiency

Symptoms

Stunted growth, pale or yellowing leaves, weak rhizome development despite adequate light

Treatment

Apply root tabs every 4-6 weeks; supplement with liquid all-in-one fertilizer; ensure substrate contains organic matter; test and adjust macronutrient levels (nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium)

Algae Overgrowth

Symptoms

Green, brown, or black algae coating leaves and substrate; reduced light penetration to plant

Treatment

Reduce light duration to 6-8 hours daily; increase water changes; add algae-eating fish or shrimp; manually remove algae; improve water circulation and reduce excess nutrients

Rhizome Rot

Symptoms

Soft, blackened rhizome; foul odor; plant fails to produce new growth despite healthy conditions

Treatment

Improve substrate drainage and water circulation; remove decaying plant material; ensure substrate is not compacted; maintain consistent temperature; consider replanting in fresh substrate if severe
