Common Diseases

Cryptocoryne Rot

Symptoms

Leaves turn translucent, mushy stems, rapid tissue breakdown, foul odor from substrate

Treatment

Remove affected leaves immediately, improve water circulation, reduce substrate moisture if possible, perform 30% water change, check for anaerobic pockets in substrate

Nutrient Deficiency

Symptoms

Yellowing leaves, stunted growth, pale coloration, loss of red pigmentation

Treatment

Dose all-in-one liquid fertilizer weekly, add macronutrient supplements (nitrogen, potassium), ensure substrate contains nutrient-rich components, test water parameters

Algae Overgrowth

Symptoms

Green or brown algae coating leaves, reduced light penetration, plant appears smothered

Treatment

Reduce lighting duration to 6-8 hours daily, increase water changes, manually remove algae, introduce algae-eating fish like Otocinclus or shrimp

Melting (Emersion Shock)

Symptoms

Sudden leaf loss after planting, transparent or dissolving leaves, plant appears to shrivel

Treatment

Maintain stable water parameters, ensure gradual acclimation if plant was grown emersed, increase CO2 if available, be patient as plant recovers over 2-4 weeks
