Echinodorus Reni
Echinodorus sp. 'Reni'
Plantae›Tracheophyta›Magnoliopsida›Alismatales›Alismataceae
📍 South America
Compact red-brown sword plant. Stays small enough for midground use. One of the smallest red Echinodorus varieties available.
Tank Mates
Peaceful algae grazers that won't uproot or damage delicate plant leaves
Gentle invertebrates that graze algae without harming plant tissue; enhance planted tank aesthetics
Excellent companion plant with similar care requirements; creates layered midground structure
Small, peaceful fish that won't disturb substrate or uproot plants; add gentle movement to tank
Complementary foreground plant that creates contrast; shares similar nutrient requirements
Excellent algae control without damaging plant leaves; larger than Cherry Shrimp, very reliable
Common Diseases
Nutrient Deficiency (Iron)
Yellowing of new leaves while veins remain green; stunted growth; pale coloration loss
Increase iron supplementation with liquid fertilizer containing chelated iron; dose 2-3x weekly until recovery
Algae Overgrowth
Green or brown algae coating leaves; reduced light penetration; plant appears smothered
Reduce lighting duration to 8-10 hours daily; increase water changes; add algae-eating fish or shrimp; manually remove affected leaves
Root Rot
Mushy, blackened roots; foul odor from substrate; plant wilting despite adequate nutrients
Remove plant and trim decayed roots with sterile scissors; replant in fresh substrate; improve water circulation and reduce organic buildup
Potassium Deficiency
Holes developing in older leaves; leaf edges turning brown; weak stem growth
Add potassium-rich fertilizer or all-in-one supplement; perform 25% water change weekly; ensure adequate macronutrient dosing
