Microsorum pteropus 'Mini'

PlantaeTracheophytaPolypodiopsidaPolypodialesPolypodiaceae

📍 Southeast Asia

Ask Finn

Dwarf Java Fern about half the size of standard. Dense, compact growth. Perfect for nano tanks and small aquascapes. Very hardy.

Common Diseases

Rhizome Rot

Symptoms

Blackening or softening of the rhizome, frond loss, mushy texture at the base

Treatment

Improve water circulation and reduce organic buildup; trim affected portions with sterile scissors; ensure rhizome is not buried in substrate

Algae Overgrowth (Black Beard Algae)

Symptoms

Dark, hair-like algae coating fronds and rhizome, reduced photosynthesis

Treatment

Manual removal with soft brush; increase water changes; reduce lighting duration; add algae-eating fish like Otocinclus or increase CO2 if feasible

Nutrient Deficiency

Symptoms

Yellowing fronds, stunted growth, pale coloration, transparent patches on leaves

Treatment

Dose liquid all-in-one fertilizer weekly; perform regular water changes; ensure adequate lighting for nutrient uptake

Melting

Symptoms

Rapid frond deterioration, transparent or dissolving leaf tissue, overall plant decline

Treatment

Acclimate slowly to new tank conditions; maintain stable water parameters (pH 6.0-7.5, temperature 23-28°C); increase water changes and ensure adequate fertilization
