River Buttercup
Ranunculus inundatus
Plantae›Tracheophyta›Magnoliopsida›Ranunculaceae
📍 Eastern Australia
Beautiful foreground or midground plant with distinctive clover-like leaves. Grows in a compact mound. Prefers slightly cooler water and good flow. One of the most unique-looking aquascaping plants.
Tank Mates
Peaceful algae eaters that won't damage delicate plant tissues
Small, gentle fish that thrive in planted tanks with good flow
Beneficial for algae control and won't uproot or damage plants
Complementary foreground plant with similar nutrient and lighting needs
Hardy companion plant that creates layered foreground/midground design
Peaceful cichlid that appreciates planted tanks; may occasionally dig but generally compatible
Common Diseases
Nutrient Deficiency
Yellowing or pale leaves, stunted growth, loss of distinctive coloration
Increase fertilizer dosing, ensure adequate macro and micronutrients, verify substrate quality and consider liquid all-in-one fertilizers
Algae Overgrowth
Green or brown algae coating leaves, reduced photosynthesis, plant decline
Reduce lighting duration to 8-10 hours daily, increase water changes, add algae-eating fish or shrimp, improve water flow
Melting
Leaves become translucent, mushy, and dissolve; rapid plant deterioration
Improve water quality with frequent partial changes, ensure stable temperature (23-26°C), increase CO2 and nutrient supplementation, remove affected leaves
Poor Growth
Slow or no growth, pale foliage, weak root development
Verify high lighting (8-10 hours daily), confirm CO2 injection is active, test water parameters, increase fertilizer frequency, ensure nutrient-rich substrate
