Dark green moss with downward-curving fronds that anchor themselves to surfaces. Less unruly than Java Moss. Good for aquascaping.

Common Diseases

Algae Overgrowth

Symptoms

Green or brown algae coating moss surface, reduced light penetration, moss appears smothered

Treatment

Increase water changes, reduce lighting duration to 6-8 hours daily, add algae-eating shrimp or fish, manually remove excess algae with soft brush

Nutrient Deficiency

Symptoms

Pale or yellowing fronds, stunted growth, loss of dark green coloration

Treatment

Dose liquid all-in-one fertilizer weekly, ensure adequate lighting (low-medium), check water parameters for nitrogen and trace elements

Decay and Melting

Symptoms

Moss becomes mushy, brown discoloration, foul odor, visible decomposition

Treatment

Improve water circulation with gentle flow, increase water change frequency, remove affected portions, ensure substrate is not anaerobic

Black Beard Algae (BBA)

Symptoms

Black or dark red fuzzy growth on moss tips and attachment points, moss appears matted

Treatment

Reduce photoperiod, increase CO2 if available, manually remove affected moss sections, add algae-eating shrimp, perform frequent water changes
