Anubias Mini Coin
Anubias barteri var. nana 'Mini Coin'
Plantae›Tracheophyta›Magnoliopsida›Araceae
Variety of Anubias Nana · mini coin
📍 West Africa
Anubias Mini Coin is a rare cultivar distinguished by its nearly circular, coin-shaped leaves on short petioles, giving it a distinctly rounded aesthetic not found in other anubias varieties. It is highly sought after by collectors and commands a premium price. Care requirements are identical to Anubias Nana Petite, and it performs best as a focal point on a small piece of hardscape.
Tank Mates
Shrimp will not damage the plant and benefit from the hardscape attachment; they help control algae on leaves
Peaceful algae-eating fish that will not uproot or damage the plant
Small, gentle fish that provide movement without disturbing the plant or hardscape
Larger shrimp species that actively graze algae and won't damage the plant
Excellent companion plant; can be attached to the same hardscape for a lush aquascape design
Foreground plant that complements the coin-shaped leaves; requires separate substrate planting
Common Diseases
Rhizome Rot
Soft, blackened tissue on the rhizome; foul odor; leaf yellowing and melting
Improve water circulation and reduce organic waste buildup. Remove affected portions with a sterile knife and reattach healthy sections to fresh hardscape. Ensure the rhizome is not buried in substrate
Algae Overgrowth
Green, brown, or black algae coating the leaves; reduced light penetration to the plant
Increase water changes, reduce light duration to 6-8 hours daily, and introduce algae-eating fish or shrimp. Manual removal with a soft brush can help; avoid harsh chemicals
Nutrient Deficiency
Pale or yellowing new leaves; stunted growth; translucent patches on older foliage
Dose liquid all-in-one fertilizer weekly according to product instructions. Ensure adequate fish bioload or consider adding macronutrient supplements if the tank is lightly stocked
Melting
Rapid leaf deterioration and dissolution after planting; transparent or mushy tissue
This is typically an adjustment phase in new tanks. Maintain stable parameters (pH 6.0–8.0, temperature 22–28°C), perform regular water changes, and be patient—new leaves will emerge as the plant acclimates
