Anubias Nana Round Leaf
Anubias barteri var. nana
Plantae›Tracheophyta›Magnoliopsida›Araceae
Variety of Anubias Nana · round leaf
📍 Captive-bred cultivar (West Africa origin)
A cultivar of A. nana with noticeably rounder, broader leaves and very short petioles, giving it a compact, dome-like silhouette. The rounded leaf shape is more pronounced than the standard nana and looks especially attractive when grouped. A popular choice for mid-foreground planting on rocks or driftwood in both small and large tanks.
Tank Mates
Peaceful algae grazers that won't damage plant leaves and help keep broad leaves clean
Gentle invertebrates that graze algae on leaves without harming the plant
Small, peaceful fish that won't uproot or damage the plant
Excellent companion plant; both are low-light tolerant and create natural-looking hardscape layouts
Contrasting foreground plant that pairs well with Anubias Nana Round Leaf's dome shape
Larger shrimp that won't damage leaves and actively clean detritus from broad leaf surfaces
Common Diseases
Anubias Rot (Rhizome Rot)
Blackening or softening of the rhizome, mushy texture, foul odor, leaf yellowing and death
Remove affected plant, trim rotted portions with sterile scissors, replant in fresh substrate with improved water flow and reduced moisture around rhizome. Ensure rhizome is not buried.
Algae Overgrowth (Black Beard Algae)
Black or dark red fuzzy growth on leaf surfaces and edges, particularly on older leaves
Manually remove affected leaves, improve water flow and lighting consistency, reduce excess nutrients, add algae-eating shrimp (Red Cherry or Amano), or use spot treatments with hydrogen peroxide on affected areas.
Nutrient Deficiency
Stunted growth, pale or yellowing new leaves, slow leaf development despite adequate lighting
Dose liquid all-in-one fertilizer (Thrive, Flourish, or equivalent) 1-2 times weekly following product instructions. Ensure adequate fish bioload or increase water change frequency to boost nutrient availability.
Melting (Leaf Deterioration)
Sudden leaf transparency, tissue breakdown, leaves becoming thin and falling apart
Usually temporary during acclimation to new tank conditions. Maintain stable parameters (pH 6.0-7.5, temperature 22-28°C), ensure gentle water flow, and avoid disturbing the plant. New growth typically appears healthy.
