Eriocaulon Polaris
Eriocaulon sp. 'Polaris'
Plantae›Tracheophyta›Magnoliopsida›Poales›Eriocaulaceae
📍 Southeast Asia
Rare Eriocaulon with short, star-shaped rosettes. Needs very soft water, CO2, and strong light. A coveted collector's plant.
Tank Mates
Small, gentle shrimp that won't damage delicate foliage and help maintain water quality
Peaceful algae grazers that won't uproot or damage the plant
Small, gentle bottom feeders that respect plants and help control algae
Complementary foreground plant with similar care requirements and soft water preference
Low-light tolerant companion plant that thrives in soft water and high-tech setups
Tiny, peaceful fish that won't disturb the plant and prefer soft, acidic water
Common Diseases
Nutrient Deficiency
Yellowing leaves, stunted growth, pale coloration, leaf melting or dissolution
Increase fertilizer dosing frequency and ensure macro/micronutrient balance; test water parameters and adjust CO2 if needed
Algae Overgrowth
Green, brown, or black algae coating leaves and rosette; plant appears smothered
Reduce light duration to 8-10 hours daily, increase water changes, add algae-eating shrimp, and manually remove affected leaves
Melting/Decay
Leaves becoming translucent, mushy, or dissolving; plant deteriorating rapidly
Check water hardness (must be very soft), verify CO2 levels, improve water circulation, and perform 50% water change; remove dead tissue
Bacterial Infection
Soft rot at base, foul odor, blackened stems, plant collapse
Remove affected plant material, increase water changes, improve water circulation, and consider antibacterial treatment if severe
