📍 Vietnam

Ask Finn

Beautiful needle-leaved rosette plant from Vietnam. Grass-like with fine, dense foliage. Requires soft water and high-tech setup.

Common Diseases

Nutrient Deficiency

Symptoms

Yellowing leaves, stunted growth, pale coloration, leaf melting or transparent patches

Treatment

Increase fertilizer dosing; ensure macronutrients (NPK) and micronutrients (iron, boron, manganese) are adequate. Test water parameters and adjust liquid fertilizer regimen accordingly

Algae Overgrowth

Symptoms

Green or brown algae coating leaves, reduced light penetration, plant appears smothered

Treatment

Reduce photoperiod to 6-8 hours daily, increase water changes, add algae-eating shrimp or fish, ensure CO2 and nutrient balance to favor plant growth over algae

Leaf Melting

Symptoms

Leaves become translucent, mushy, or dissolve; typically occurs after planting or during acclimation

Treatment

Ensure stable water parameters (soft, slightly acidic water preferred), maintain consistent CO2 injection, increase fertilizer dosing, and allow 2-4 weeks for emersed leaves to transition to submerged form

Poor Growth / Stagnation

Symptoms

Minimal new leaf development, plant appears dormant, no visible progress over weeks

Treatment

Verify CO2 levels (30-40 ppm ideal), increase lighting intensity, ensure substrate contains nutrient-rich base layer, boost liquid fertilizer dosing, and check that water hardness is low (soft water preferred)
