Tank Mates
Reef-safe fish that won't prey on or damage corals; compatible with low-flow environments
Beneficial reef inhabitants that help maintain coral health and won't harm Favia
Peaceful algae grazers that won't damage corals or compete for food
Small, reef-safe fish that stay in lower water column and won't disturb corals
Reef-safe scavengers that help maintain tank cleanliness without harming corals
Common Diseases
Brown Jelly Disease
Brown, jelly-like tissue sloughing off coral; rapid tissue recession; foul smell
Isolate affected coral if possible; perform large water changes; remove dead tissue with turkey baster; treat with antibiotics or iodine-based solutions; improve water quality and flow
Coral Bleaching
Loss of color; coral appears white or pale; polyps may retract
Reduce light intensity temporarily; check and stabilize water temperature (maintain 23-28°C); improve water quality; ensure adequate flow; reduce stressors
Parasitic Infection
Visible spots or lesions on coral; excessive mucus production; polyp damage
Improve water quality and flow; perform water changes; consider copper-free treatments designed for corals; quarantine if spreading to other corals
Tissue Necrosis
Black or dark patches on coral tissue; progressive tissue death; polyp loss
Improve water parameters (salinity, pH, calcium); increase water flow; perform regular water changes; remove affected tissue if isolated; ensure adequate lighting
