Flame Moss Mini

Taxiphyllum sp. 'Flame Mini'

PlantaeBryophytaBryopsidaHypnalesHypnaceae

📍 Southeast Asia

Ask Finn

Compact version of Flame Moss with shorter, denser upward-growing fronds. Creates a tighter 'flame' effect. Hardy and easy.

Common Diseases

Algae Overgrowth

Symptoms

Moss covered by green, brown, or black algae; reduced light penetration to moss tissue

Treatment

Increase water circulation, reduce lighting duration to 6-8 hours daily, manually remove algae, introduce algae-eating shrimp or fish

Nutrient Deficiency

Symptoms

Yellowing or pale fronds; stunted or no growth despite adequate lighting

Treatment

Dose liquid all-in-one fertilizer weekly; test and adjust macronutrients (nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium) as needed

Melting

Symptoms

Fronds become translucent, mushy, or dissolve; usually after major water parameter changes

Treatment

Maintain stable water conditions (pH 6.0-7.5, temperature 23-28°C); perform gradual water changes; remove severely damaged portions

Poor Attachment

Symptoms

Moss detaches from hardscape or floats; appears loose or uprooted

Treatment

Reattach using fishing line, cotton thread, or plant-safe glue; ensure hardscape surface is clean and rough for better grip
