Stylophora
Stylophora spp.
Animalia›Cnidaria›Anthozoa›Pocilloporidae
📍 Indo-Pacific Reef Systems
Stylophora is a classic branching SPS coral with short, rounded branch tips. Commonly called cats paw coral, it is a good entry-level SPS and grows quickly under reef lighting. Available in pink, green, and purple colour morphs.
Tank Mates
Hardy fish that coexist peacefully with SPS corals and thrive in high-flow, high-light reef environments
Beneficial invertebrates that maintain coral health without damaging polyps; compatible with high-energy reef systems
Reef-safe invertebrate that coexists well with SPS corals; may occasionally disturb substrate near coral base
Peaceful, reef-safe fish that occupies lower water column and does not bother corals
Active, reef-safe fish that benefits from high flow; may occasionally dart near corals but causes no damage
Reef-safe invertebrate that helps control nuisance organisms without harming SPS corals
Common Diseases
Coral Bleaching
Loss of coloration, polyps appear white or pale, reduced polyp extension
Reduce light intensity temporarily, check water parameters (calcium, alkalinity, temperature), ensure adequate flow, perform partial water changes to improve water quality
Brown Jelly Disease
Brown, gelatinous film covering coral tissue, rapid tissue recession, foul odor
Isolate affected coral immediately, perform daily water changes, remove affected tissue with clean tools, treat with iodine-based coral dips or antibiotics if available
Parasitic Infestation
Visible white spots or worms on coral, reduced polyp extension, tissue damage
Quarantine coral if possible, increase water flow and aeration, perform targeted freshwater dips (30-60 seconds), treat with copper-free parasite medications designed for corals
Nutrient Deficiency
Slow growth, pale coloration, reduced polyp extension despite adequate lighting
Increase feeding frequency with planktonic foods, supplement with trace elements and amino acids, test and maintain proper calcium and alkalinity levels
