Acan Lord
Acanthastrea lordhowensis
Animalia›Cnidaria›Anthozoa›Lobophylliidae
📍 Indo-Pacific Reefs
Colourful LPS coral with large fleshy polyps available in virtually every colour combination. Aggressive — maintain space between it and neighbouring corals. Beginner-friendly.
Tank Mates
Hardy reef fish that coexist peacefully with LPS corals and provide natural movement without aggression
Beneficial for reef health; will not harm corals and may remove parasites from fish
Algae grazer that helps maintain tank cleanliness without disturbing corals
Small, peaceful fish that feeds on parasites and poses no threat to corals
Active swimmer that stays in lower water column and avoids coral contact
Common Diseases
Brown Jelly Disease
Brown, slimy tissue recession; polyp retraction; visible tissue degradation
Increase water flow, perform 25% water change, remove affected coral to quarantine, treat with antibiotic dips if severe
Coral Bleaching
Loss of color; polyps appear white or pale; reduced feeding response
Check water parameters (temperature, salinity, pH), improve lighting gradually, increase water flow, ensure stable conditions
Parasitic Infection
Visible spots or lesions on polyps; excessive mucus production; reduced polyp extension
Quarantine coral if possible, increase water flow, perform dips in freshwater or medicated solutions, maintain excellent water quality
Polyp Necrosis
Polyps fail to extend; tissue death; foul odor from affected areas
Improve water quality, check for allelopathic coral neighbors, increase calcium and alkalinity, ensure adequate nutrition
