Betta Simorum
Betta simorum
📍 Southeast Asia
Betta simorum is a mouthbrooding betta species native to Southeast Asia, known for its peaceful temperament compared to other bettas. This species exhibits beautiful coloration and is suitable for community tanks with proper tank mates. They are moderately easy to care for and make excellent additions to planted aquariums.
Care Guide
Diet
Betta simorum are carnivorous and prefer small live foods such as bloodworms, brine shrimp, and daphnia. High-quality pellets designed for bettas can supplement their diet. Feed small portions 1-2 times daily, adjusting based on appetite and tank conditions.
Behavior
This peaceful betta species is less aggressive than Betta splendens and can coexist with compatible tank mates. They are active swimmers that enjoy exploring planted areas and will display natural behaviors like bubble nesting. Males may show mild territorial behavior but rarely engage in serious aggression.
Breeding
Betta simorum are mouthbrooders, with females incubating eggs in their mouths. Breeding requires a dedicated tank with dense vegetation and stable water conditions. Pairs should be conditioned with live foods before breeding, and fry require infusoria or liquid fry food upon release.
