Common Diseases

Goniopora Recession

Symptoms

Polyps fail to extend, tissue recession from base, gradual coral shrinkage

Treatment

Improve water quality (test parameters), increase feeding frequency, enhance water flow, perform partial water changes; often indicates poor water conditions or inadequate nutrition

Brown Jelly Disease

Symptoms

Brown slime coating polyps, rapid tissue loss, foul odor

Treatment

Isolate coral immediately, perform dips in iodine solution, remove affected tissue with clean tools, improve water quality and reduce bioload

Bleaching

Symptoms

Loss of color, pale or white appearance, weakened polyp extension

Treatment

Reduce light intensity, check water temperature stability, improve water quality, increase feeding; caused by stress from temperature fluctuations or poor conditions

Polyp Necrosis

Symptoms

Individual polyps die and disappear, tissue damage spreading from affected areas

Treatment

Ensure stable water parameters, increase feeding, check for predators or aggressive tank mates, perform water changes to reduce toxins
